Summary of Lesson
One of the most important places we “meet” God is in His Word, in the Bible. He comes to us and speaks to us in the Holy Scriptures. Although the books of the Bible were written a long time ago, they are God’s “living” words and they are important for our lives today. When we are confused, sad, tired, angry, happy, hopeful and curious… We can find answers in the Bible. At any moment of our life, in any situation, we can find help in God’s Word. God’s Word is a “light” for our feet – a lamp that shows us the way. Just like we talk to our friends and our family often, it is important that we read the Scriptures and try to remember them.
Meet the Saints Bullet Points:
- The Bible is a place where we can meet and hear God.
- God speaks to us personally in the Scriptures.
- In every situation we find ourselves in, we can find answers in God’s Word.
- God’s Word is “light to our feet”, it guides us in our life.
- We should read the Bible often, to hear God’s voice.
Scripture Passage: Luke 24: 28-35: The Road to Emmaus
And they approached the village where they were going, and He gave the impression that He was going farther. And so they strongly urged Him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day is now nearly over.” So He went in to stay with them. And it came about, when He had reclined at the table with them, that He took the bread and blessed it, and He broke it and began giving it to them. And then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. They said to one another, “Were our hearts not burning within us when He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?” And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together and those who were with them, saying, “The Lord has really risen and has appeared to Simon!” They began to relate their experiences on the road, and how He was recognized by them at the breaking of the bread. (emphasis added)
Discussion Prompts/Questions:
- What do you think of when you hear the word “Bible”?
- Why do you think it is important to “listen” to God’s words?
- Do negative thoughts and ideas enter our minds and hearts sometimes? Why is it good to fill our minds and hearts, instead, with Scripture?
- Do you know of any other mottos or phrases that help you when you are feeling sad or confused? What good “mottos” can you find in Scripture?
Saint of the Month: St. Peter Chanel (April 28th)
The Saint of the month is St. Peter Chanel. He lived in the 1800s in France. He became a priest and helped the parish he was assigned to to flourish. He desired to be a missionary – to bring God’s word to countries that did not know Jesus yet – but was later assigned to be a teacher for future priests. Even though he did not get the assignment he wanted, he was a great teacher. Finally, after that, he went to the Pacific islands to bring Christianity to those who did not know the faith. There were many who had never heard of Jesus. He told them all and many people were baptized. Unfortunately, the King in the area didn’t like that so he had him persecuted and later killed.
