Summary of Lesson
Last month, and during Lent, we talked about Jesus coming to save each and everyone of us through his passion and death. Now we move on to his resurrection and we celebrate! The Easter season is 50 days long… longer than Lent! And just like we reflected on sin, sacrifice and the way of the Cross, now we can meditate on joy, new life and Heaven! In the Gospel of John, we hear that Peter ran to the tomb, to see if Jesus had really risen from the dead. He found the place empty and he saw the burial cloths folded up. The burial clothes being folded symbolized that Jesus would be back! This is Jesus’ way of telling us that he rose from the dead and that he will return to earth again at some point! After that, Jesus appeared to the disciples to prove that he was alive!
Lesson Bullet Points:
- Jesus, our Savior, opened the doors to Heaven through his sacrifice on the Cross.
- Easter is not just one day, it is a whole Season for us to reflect on Jesus’ gift of joy and new life!
- Jesus told his disciples, in words and actions, that he would be back.
- Jesus proved to his disciples, over and over, that he was alive!
Scripture Passage: Matthew 28:6
“He is not here, for He has been raised just as He said.”
Discussion Prompts/Questions:
- Have you ever had to put a lot of work, struggle and sacrifice into something? How did it feel when you finally got to the end? Did you celebrate?
- How did your Lenten sacrifices go?
- What do you imagine that Heaven will be like?
- Have you ever had to be apart from someone (sibling, parent or friend) for a long time? How did it feel when you were back together?
- How can we celebrate Easter for 50 days?
Saint of the Month: Saint Catherine of Siena – April 29th
Saint Catherine of Siena grew up with many brothers and sisters, and from the beginning, she served her family with great love. She also cared for the sick and poor. Some in the Church during her time avoided the poor and lived very rich and sinful lives, so Catherine decided to start traveling and calling people to reform their lives. She wrote hundreds of letters to priests, sisters, politicians, and even the Pope! Her own example of simple living and caring for others was a very moving testimony.
