Family Faith Formation Lesson Two: October 6th, 2024
Following Sunday’s Gospel: Mk 10:17-30 “The Rich Young Man”
This year, we are basing the structure and the content of Family Faith Formation – both the parent lessons and the kid lessons – on Gospel passages, specifically the Gospel for the following Sunday. We want the children and parents to encounter the richness of Sacred Scripture and to be able to “hear God’s voice” in their daily life. We want them to learn about and “see” Jesus in the New Testament. Some of the Gospel passages are long and have many themes; you do not need to cover all of them, feel free to highlight one or two. We will continue to have a Saint of the Month, but you do not need to include this in the class if you do not have time. We will send home “Gospel Weeklies” from Pflaum Publishing. These are small newsletter/newspaper like handouts that go into the Sunday Gospel. Kids will get one for each week of the school year! We will probably pass out 4-5 at a time.

Gospel Summary:
Man calls Jesus “Good Teacher” and asks him how to gain “eternal life”. Jesus reminds him of the Ten Commandments and then invites him to sell everything he has and “follow him”. The man went away sad because he had many possessions. Jesus said it is hard to enter the “Kingdom of Heaven”, but with God it is possible. The apostles tell Jesus they left everything for him, and he says they will be blessed in Heaven.

- What are some ways Jesus can be calling us to follow him now?
Saint of the Month: Our Lady of the Rosary (Feast Day: October 7th)
Tradition holds that Mary taught St. Dominic how to pray the rosary and that after that, his followers started teaching other people. The feast day was established in the 1500’s after many people prayed the rosary so that Greece and the surrounding Christian areas could be saved from an invasion. We continue this day, to pray the rosary, in order to ask for God’s protection and strength in our own lives.
